Section – A
(Long Answer Questions)
Answer any two questions. Each question carries 15 marks. 2 × 15 = 30
1. There is an under current of humour in the Characterization of almost every character in Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. Illustrate the point.
2. Explain how Donne builds up the idea of canonization in the lines of poetry ?

Answer any four questions. Each question carries 5 marks. 5 × 4 = 20

3. Write a short essay on the elements of Morality plays in Doctor Faustus.
4. “Revenge is a kind of wild justice.” Explain in the right of Bacon’s essay “Of Revenge”.

5. Do you think The Spanish Tragedy is modelled on Senecas tragedy. Explain briefly.
6. Write a note on the theme of “disguise” in As You Like It.
7. Draw a character sketch of the Monk in Prologue to Canterbury Tales.
8. Write a note on the lyrical quality of the Faerie Queen.

Note : This paper is of sixty (60) marks divided into three (03) sections A, B, and C. Attempt the questions contained in these sections according to the detailed instructions given therein.

Section – A : (Long Answer Type Questions)
Note : Section ‘A’ contains four (04) long-answer-type questions of fifteen (15) marks each. Learners are required to answer any two (02) questions only. (2×15=30)
1. Write an essay on Chaucer’s portrayal of women in The Prologue.
2. “The Alchemist reflects Jacobean London in which Ben Jonson lived.” Comment.
3. Discuss Bacon’s contribution to English prose.
4. Trace the spirit of Renaissance in the plays of Marlowe with special reference to Dr. Faustus.

Section – B : (Short Answer Type Questions)
Note : Section ‘B’ contains eight (08) short-answer-type questions of five (05) marks each. Learners are required to answer any four (04) questions only. (4×5=20)
1. Write a short note on The Duchess of Malfi as a typical Revenge Play.
2. Write a short note on Bacon’s style with special reference to “Of Truth” and “Of Revenge”.
3. Shed light on the central idea of the poem “The Ecstasie”.

4. Write a note on Sharespeare’s use of Dramatic Irony in King Lear.
5. Write a note on the allegorical element s in The Faerie Queen.
6. List the salient features of Shakespeare’s comedies with reference to As You Like It.
7. Write a note on the use of satire and ridicule in The Alchemist.
8. Write a brief note on The Spanish Tragedy.
