Q1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :
India has a monsoon-type of climate, which is marked by relatively dry winters and rainy summers. The word „monsoon‟ is derived from the Arabic „mousim‟ which means season.
The term basically refers to a seasonal wind, which blows with consistency and regularity during a part of the year, and which is either absent or flows from another direction for the rest of the year. Such changes of winds are primarily due to differential heating and cooling of the various parts of the earth.
The monsoon is vital to the Indian way of life because agriculture is dependent on its arrival. Delayed or absent monsoon showers can cause disaster to the crops.
