Important Instructions to Examiners

1) The answer should be examined by keywords and not as word-to-word as given in the model answer scheme.

 

2) The model answer and the answer written by candidate may vary but the examiner may try to assess the understanding level of the candidate.

3) The language error such as grammatical, spelling errors should not be given more importance. (Not applicable for subject English and communication skill).

4) While assessing figures, examiner may give credit for principal components indicated in the figure. The figure drawn by candidate and model answer may vary. The examiner may give credit for any equivalent figure drawn.

5) Credits may be given step wise for numerical problems. In the some cases, the assumed constants values may vary and there may be some difference in the candidates answer and model answer.

6) In case of some questions credit may be given by judgment on part of examiner of relevant answer based on candidates understanding.

Define Atomic number, Atomic mass number.
Atomic number: The number of protons in the nucleus, which exactly balances the number of planetary electrons, is called the atomic number of an element.
Atomic mass number: It is defined as the sum of the number of protons & neutrons present in the nucleus of an atom of the element.

State Faraday’s 1 st law of electrolysis.
This law states that the weight of a substance liberated or deposited at the electrode is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity passed through the electrolyte solution.

Define the term mineral and ore.
i] Mineral: – A naturally occurring substance present in earth’s crust which contains metal either in free or combined state is known as mineral.
ii] Ore: – A mineral from which the metal can be extracted economically & profitably is known as ore.

Define addition polymerization with one example.
Addition polymerization: It is a process in which the monomers of same type undergo repeated addition resulting in the formation of long chain polymer without elimination of simple molecules like H2O, HCl, NH3 etc.
Example: Polythene (Polythene), PVC etc.

Define Pollution. Name the types of pollution.
Pollution: Excesses discharge or addition of undesirable substances or unwanted foreign matters into the environment thereby adversely altering the natural quality of the environment and causing damage to human plants or animal life.
Types of pollution: (any two)
i) Air pollution
ii) Water pollution
iii) Soil pollution
iv) Noise pollution
iv) Radioactive pollution
v) Thermal pollution

What is E-waste?
E-waste means Electronic waste.
E- Waste includes computers, entertainment electronics, mobile phones and other items that have been discarded by their original users.

Mention two properties & two uses of Copper.
Properties:
i) Reddish brown in colour
ii) Soft, malleable, ductile
iii) Very good conductor of heat & electricity.
iv) Tough & resistant to corrosion
Uses :
i) Used in making electrical wires & cables
ii) In heating utensils, pans.
iii) In making coins, ornaments.
iv) In making alloys
iv) In electroplating

State any two causes of pollution.
i) Uncontrolled growth in population
ii) Rapid industrialization
iii) Rapid urbanization
iv) exploitation of Nature i.e. Cutting trees
v) Natural phenomena like Radioactivity, Volcanic eruptions , Strong winds
