PART-A : (Designing – II)
1. (a) Describe the following terms : 5×1=5
(i)English sizing system
(ii)Zimping/Gimping
(iii)Mule styles
(iv)Feather line
(v)Mean Form

(b) In relation to slip-on, what will be the total length and width (mm) of the U-Binding Pattern to be stiched by cylinder arm machine ? Given Conditions :
(i)Half length of strip is 160 mm.
(ii)Visible width of strip is 8 mm. Give reasons for the same.

PART-B : [Cutting – II]
(b) Explain in brief : (Answer any four) 4×1/2=2
(i)What is the difference between Area coefficient and Grade co-efficient ?
(ii)How we sort the leather ?
(iii)What are the disadvantages of graphical method of costing in leather ?
(iv)What is mean cuttability coefficient ?
(v)How will you test adhesion of finish in case of leather ?

(c) Answer any five of the following. 5×2=10

(i) The tannery has supplied 7000 sq. ft of leather of TR-1 grade. The price quoted as Rs 80/- per sq. ft. When the leather is received in the shoe factory, following result is observed after checking of the lot :

B 2550 Sqft.
C 2750 Sqft.
Calculate purchase cost variance in terms of profit (+) or loss ( —).

(ii) There are two tannery, supplying B grade leather @ 85 Rs/sqft. with area discrepancy of 8% and 2nd tannery is supplying A grade leather @ 80 Rs/sqft. With area discrepancy of 12%. What will be the variance in cost if 2000 sq.ft. material is purchased from both tanneries separately ? Which tannery is giving the best value to the buyer ?
(iii) What is the procedure of calculating material allowance of table RSM method ?
(iv)Write step-by-step procedure for calculating scale area through 0° method of RSM.
(v)Explain the procedure of calculating material allowance of synthetic material by tracing method.
(vi)Explain the various types of random tests for the selection of leather.
