1. Create 3 geometric compositions using any shape confirming to the principles of architecture of your choice. (20)
2. Create 2 compositions in 3D with different hues. (20)
3. Explain liner form and centralized form with the help of sketches. Also quote examples of building by eminent Architect. (20)
4. Make sketches for generating subtractive forms out of basic rectangular shape. (20)
5. Design a ceiling pattern for an octagonal space with one ride measuring 6m. (20)
6. Create a composition using subtractive and additive forms in 2-D using 3 basic shapes. (20)
7. Discuss in plan / elevation / view, the Taj Mahal with respect to principles of architecture. (20)

2. What are the principles of Design? Bring out the importance of at least three of these in making a composition aesthetically pleasing. (10)
3. Explain the role of space in architectural design. Support your answer with the help of graphics. (10)
4. Elaborate the concept of additive and subtractive transformation of forms in architectural compositions with the help of suitable examples. (10)
5. How does scale affect the design of buildings? Establish the importance of scale in designing elevations of building facades. (10)

2. What are the elements of Design? Bring out the effect of each one of these elements in making a composition aesthetically pleasing. (10)
3. Explain the role of space in architectural compositions. Support your answer with the help of sketches. (10)
4. What do you understand by ‘transformation’? Elaborate the concept of additive and subtractive transformation of solid geometrical forms in buildings across the globe. (10)
5. Write a short note on scale in architecture. Establish the importance of scale in designing functional spaces. (10)

1. Generate 3 compositions in 2-D using 3 basic geometric shapes in each of them. The 3 compositions should confirm to the following principles. Attempt/Choose any 3 of the following principles. (6×5=30)
a) Monotony.
b) Asymmetrical Balance.
c) Rhythm.
d) Harmony.
e) Contrast.
2. Create a composition in 3D with different tones. (10)
3. Create possible additive forms for square as basic shape of building. Use any shape to generate additive form. (10)
4. Explain with sketches Radial Form. Give examples from buildings also to support the radial form. (10)
5. Design a pattern for flooring in a circular restaurant (seating space only) of diameter 20’.
B.Arch. II (Second) Semester Examination 2011-12 :
1. Give a design proposal for a Café to be constructed in the University Campus. The target clientele of the proposed Café are Univ. students during daytime and Faculty / Hostel residents of the Campus during evening and night.
The Café shall be a single storeyed building and have the following functional requirements
i) Main Café : To cater to sitting for 20 persons.
ii) Outdoor sitting : For 20 persons [Semi-covered/open]
iii) Kitchen : 10 sqm
iv) Toilets & other Amenities : As per norms
Assuming any suitable site plan for the proposed building submit the following drawings to any convenient scale to explain your design proposal :

Freehand/Isometric view. (5)
2. Draw on a scale of 1:10 the elevation of any four human figures in different postures/doing different activities. Dimension your sketches.
